Founded more than 60 years ago, today Kaufman Rossin is one of the largest independent CPA and business consulting firms in the country. To spur its future growth and scale its operations, the firm uses Domo throughout the organization to ensure it has the right resources at the right time for each of its hundreds of clients.

Operationalizing data

Before Domo, Kaufman Rossin had data spread across the organization, often locked away in static spreadsheets. “No single set of data was authoritative,” said Merideth Tucker, a principal and practice leader for the firm’s Entrepreneurial Services group. “There were so many times we would be in a meeting and wanted to see the billing data for a client, and configuring that data was a day-long exercise. Not only that, but a colleague doing the same exercise could somehow come up with a completely different data set. The constant triangulation of information often eclipsed whatever business problem you were trying to solve.”

Thanks to consumption pricing, Kaufman Rossin gives all its employees the Domo access they need to leverage a single source of truth when making decisions. “It has also helped us get access to data science and custom apps, which has been a game changer,” said Lilia Restrepo, director of business operations at Kaufman Rossin. “People aren’t just viewing reports or dashboards, but interacting with data, starting workflows, and forecasting results.”

But there’s a lot more power under the hood. Business Apps allow us to create unique, custom experiences that drive action by launching workflows.”

Maximizing people

By using Domo to better track its productivity and capacity, Kaufman Rossin ensures that each and every client gets the focus it deserves, even as the needs of clients evolve and grow. The firm uses data from across finance, HR, and client-specific spreadsheets to keep teams running smoothly.

Domo helped us rebalance the staff we assigned to each client, because you can’t just divide it up by people,” Tucker said. “You have to look at the hours allocated to the client and the hours each professional has available to work. We pride ourselves on providing flexible schedules for people with caregiving responsibilities or doing things like studying for the CPA exam, so Domo helps us balance how many hours we can allocate with each team.”

Kaufman Rossin also uses Domo to improve its financial performance by tracking key metrics like outstanding accounts receivable, the amount of budget still to be spent for each client, and how different teams contribute to the bottom line.

We are discovering that some teams are more productive than others, and Domo helps us figure out their special sauce so we can share best practices with other teams,” Tucker said. “We are also looking at client-level metrics to have discussions about potential fee increases and profitability.”

Helping clients do more

In addition to using Domo to power its internal operations, Kaufman Rossin helps its clients leverage the power of Domo Everywhere to increase their own insight. For example, Kaufman Rossin worked with its client Blanca Commercial Real Estate to help them understand how they could use Domo to streamline the market research capabilities it provides landlords.

Before Kaufman Rossin and Domo, we had to pull information from a variety of places, and a lot of manual labor was involved,” said Diana Pubchara, CMO at Blanca. “That is now automated, so we can focus on providing the added insight that we need to make better decisions.”

With commercial real estate still in flux, Blanca uses Domo to have more informed discussions and better meet the changing demands of clients.
