The future of Domo
At Domo, we don’t just want to deliver customer value—we aspire to be leaders in our industry. The best way to do this is by tuning in to our customers and crafting solutions around your user needs.
Events like the Connections Tour give us invaluable face time with our customers to help us understand how the platform can be improved and where our blind spots may be. In fact, it’s these connections that help us develop our strategic priorities for the months and years to come.
On this year’s Connections Tour, we shared three of the priorities that are driving product innovation:
1. Self-service: We want the platform to work for all of our customers, whether you are a data scientist with coding experience or a business user trying to ask higher-level questions. Therefore, we’re prioritizing the creation of a flexible platform that can adapt to different needs while remaining intuitive to use. If you want a simple dashboard to track your team’s spending, you can easily create one. But if you need to pull data from 20 different sources to help with complicated supply chain management, we’ve also got you covered. By enhancing our usability, we help you unlock all of the capabilities of Domo.
2. Ecosystem: We know that our users have many different platforms and tools in their tech stacks. And while Domo performs fantastically on a variety of functions, many teams may prefer to work with tools they are already familiar with. The great thing about Domo is that you don’t have to choose one or the other. Our agility and independence allow us to easily integrate with partners like Databricks and Snowflake, so you can enhance the tools you already have. You don’t need to walk away from the programs or tools you love; you just need to make space for us, too. We’re worth the investment.
3. Innovations in AI: Domo already has a strong AI foundation. But we are always searching for new ways to use AI and large language models (LLM) in order to deliver meaningful outcomes for our customers. At the same time, we recognize that you may have some concerns about data security. Thankfully, all of the Domo.AI systems are built on the platform itself. With DomoGPT, your data remains within the Domo ecosystem, safeguarded from third-party access, so you can use the powerful features of AI models and feel secure doing so.
9 innovations on deck for Domo
Now that you understand what’s driving innovation, let’s take a closer look at some of the new features you can start using today or will be able to take advantage of soon.
1. AI Chat: Curious about what’s hidden in your data? We’re making it easier for you to find the answers with your new personal data assistant.
This software tool allows you to ask questions about your data using natural language and quickly generate answers in both narrative and visual formats. AI Chat will choose the data sets associated with the dashboard you are currently using. And the Focus feature allows you to further refine your queries, by adding or removing data sets as needed.
Unsure about a response you received? AI Chat also provides a step-by-step breakdown of how it answered your question, so you can easily verify each step of the process. Learn more about how to use AI Chat.
2. AI Readiness: In tandem with AI Chat, we are also releasing AI Readiness. This new feature lets you add metadata to your data sets, which helps you generate more accurate responses.
By adding metadata and select fields, you supply context that generative AI needs to ensure it uses the most relevant data, which leads to more precise and useful AI-generated content. AI Readiness will help you choose the columns that matter to you, adding descriptive names, categories, types, and subtypes. Learn more about why AI Readiness is important.
3. Persistent app page filters: We want to make sure that answering your business questions is as simple as possible. Having to add the same filter over and over again as you navigate between app pages isn’t necessarily difficult, but it sure can be tedious. Now, you can add persistent filters across your app pages and dashboards to help streamline your data analysis and make sure that you’re focused on the right variables.
4. Copied app themes: For our no-code app users, we’re making it even easier for you to design apps to your desired specifications. If you see a theme in an app that you love and want to apply it to your own app, all you need to do is find that app and import the theme. In as simple as one click, you can set up an app that aligns with your company’s brand guidelines and colors.
5. Pro-code WEB IDE Editor: Our pro-code app users also have some enhancements to look forward to. Our Web IDE Editor is making it faster to iterate, test, and deploy pro-code elements to Domo by providing you with access to make changes to the pro-code components. You’ll also have access to templates for quicker development.
6. Enhanced table exploration: New table enhancements in App Studio will allow you to analyze your data more efficiently and answer business questions more effectively. By providing a more Excel-like and user-friendly table experience, the platform makes it easy to set up new tables and edit them directly in the app, manage and group columns, and apply filters. This update should help Excel holdouts keep their data in one place rather than exporting it.
7. Schema and Meta Select tiles: Have you ever wished you could make bulk schema changes to the data you flow through your Magic ETL job? Our new Schema tile will help facilitate data modifications by providing you with a table that describes the column names, column expressions, and column data types of your data set. You can then use the familiar tiles in Magic ETL to apply changes to your schema.
Once your schema is exactly how you want it, you can feed it into the Meta Select tile, alongside your data set, and the changes will be applied. These new tiles are a game changer for data cleaning and AI data prep, so be on the lookout for more detailed documentation on how to use them.
8. Tile Sections and Sticky Notes: Our most-requested Magic ETL feature is finally coming! When we announced this innovation at several tour stops, the entire audience burst into applause. The ability to logically group and annotate tiles is pivotal for improving collaboration and institutionalizing knowledge. Using Tile Sections, you’ll be able to select relevant portions of your DataFlow and group them into a section, with options to add a title or change the color to distinguish that section. Adding Sticky Notes will allow you to further communicate important details about the section so that all users have the necessary context.
9. Connection 2.0: The Domo platform connects to over 1,000 data sources, but sometimes connectors are still too rigid, or a connector is not available for the system you need. To provide the flexibility you need, we are creating a more user-friendly way to connect to data from within the Magic ETL canvas. With Connection 2.0, we are giving you options—you can use a Domo pre-built connector, customize existing building blocks, or write your own custom scripts. Once you have the data in Magic, you can parse, transform, and store it however you want.
